Introduction

This training provides participants with practical knowledge and tools to systematically integrate gender equality considerations into policies, programs, and projects. The course emphasizes applying gender mainstreaming principles across the project cycle to enhance effectiveness, equity, and sustainability in humanitarian, development, government, and donor-funded interventions.

Participants will gain hands-on skills to identify gender gaps, design gender-responsive activities, and meet institutional and donor gender requirements.

Day 1: Introduction to Gender and Gender Mainstreaming

  • Key gender concepts: sex, gender, equality, equity, inclusion
  • Gender roles, power relations, and social norms
  • Rationale and benefits of gender mainstreaming
  • International and national gender frameworks (SDGs, CEDAW)
  • Practical exercise: gender issues identification

 

Day 2: Gender Analysis for Programming

  • Purpose of gender analysis
  • Overview of gender analysis tools and approaches
  • Gender analysis in humanitarian and development contexts
  • Intersectionality and vulnerable groups
  • Practical session: conducting a basic gender analysis

 

Day 3: Gender Mainstreaming Across the Project Cycle

  • Gender mainstreaming in project identification and design
  • Gender-responsive implementation strategies
  • Participation, representation, and accountability
  • Gender-sensitive communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Practical session: mainstreaming gender into project activities

 

Day 4: Gender-Responsive Planning, Budgeting & M&E

  • Gender-responsive planning and results frameworks
  • Developing gender-sensitive indicators
  • Gender-responsive budgeting concepts
  • Gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation
  • Practical session: developing gender action plans

 

Day 5: Policy Alignment, Safeguarding & Best Practices

  • Institutional and donor gender policy requirements
  • Gender, protection, and safeguarding considerations
  • Do-no-harm and ethical programming
  • Case studies and lessons learned
  • Action planning, presentations, and course evaluation
