Introduction

Day 1: Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety

  • Overview of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • Roles and responsibilities of a Health and Safety Officer
  • OHS legislation, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Employer and employee duties
  • Health and safety management systems (HSMS)
  • Case study: Common workplace accidents and causes

 

Day 2: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

  • Types of workplace hazards (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial)
  • Hazard identification techniques
  • Risk assessment methods and tools
  • Hierarchy of controls
  • Safe work procedures and job safety analysis (JSA)
  • Practical exercise: Conducting a workplace risk assessment

 

Day 3: Workplace Safety Practices and Control Measures

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection and use
  • Machinery and equipment safety
  • Electrical safety and fire prevention
  • Manual handling and ergonomics
  • Safe handling and storage of hazardous substances
  • Practical demonstration: PPE and safety controls

 

Day 4: Incident Management and Emergency Preparedness

  • Accident and incident reporting procedures
  • Root cause analysis and investigations
  • Emergency preparedness and response planning
  • Fire safety and evacuation procedures
  • First aid basics and workplace health programs
  • Case study: Incident investigation and corrective actions

 

Day 5: Safety Management, Monitoring, and Reporting

  • Developing and implementing safety policies and procedures
  • Safety training and communication
  • Workplace inspections and safety audits
  • Monitoring compliance and performance indicators
  • Safety documentation, reporting, and record-keeping
  • Final assessment, group discussions, and course wrap-up
